Angry residents lynch soldier to death for allegedly shooting 4 civilians in Maiduguri

An angry mob reportedly descended on a soldier accused of shooting four civilians during an argument which ensued at Baga Road Market area of Maiduguri, Borno state capital.

According to eyewitness accounts reported by Premium Times, the mob lynched the soldier to death on Saturday, January 16 for shooting four civilians, leaving one dead on the spot and three others seriously injured and currently receiving medical treatment.

The soldier said to be Private was identified as Mohammed Abdullahi with service number 16NA/75/4272. 

The security operative who was serving in the 130 Battalion but attached to the 212 Battalion for the ongoing anti-insurgency Operation Lafiya Dole, was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident.

The incident has allegedly sparked tension in the Barka Da Zuwa general area of the city, with civilians apprehensive that soldiers might descend on the vicinity to avenge the lynching of their colleague.
