Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, has asked IGP, Mohammed Adamu to release her aides after a fresh fight rocked the Presidential Villa.
The First Lady’s aide were detained on the orders of Sabiu ‘Tunde’ Yusuf, Personal Assistant to President Buhari.
The fresh drama in Presidential villa began when Yusuf returned from a trip to Lagos, Nigeria’s hotbed for Coronavirus and refused to undergo self-isolation procedures for 14 days against COVID-19 measures.
Sabiu tried to access the Presidential villa but was evicted by security operatives attached to the first family.
Angered by the act, Sabiu allegedly ordered the arrest of the security operatives including Usman Shugaba, Aide De Camp (ADC) to the First Lady who was involved in his eviction.
However, Aisha Buhari has called on the IGP for the release of her aides who were unlawfully arrested.
According to her, anyone who engages in interstate travel should undergo a mandatory self-isolation as stipulated by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), regardless of their status.
She made the call in a thread of tweets;
“That Covid-19 is real and still very much around in our nation is not in doubt. Consequently, I call on all relevant Government Agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by Mr. President and ensure no one is found violating this law and the NCDC guidelines especially on interstate travel without the necessary exemptions for movement of essentials,
“Anyone who does that should at the very least be made to under go a 14 days mandatory isolation no matter who the person is, no one should be above the law and the Police command will do well to remember that.
“Finally, I call on the IGP to release my assigned Staff who are still in the custody of the Police in order to avoid putting their lives in danger or exposure to Covid-19 while in their custody.”
However, many Nigerians reacted to tweets by accusing her of speaking up only when the issue concerns her but remain silent when it is about others. They accused the first lady of not speaking up when everyone condemned the rape and murder of UNIBEN student, Uwaila Omozuwa, and also said she has never spoken up against the killings in Katsina, her husband’s home state.
