Breaking: Israel Adesanya suffers first defeat, loses to champion Jan Blachowicz

UFC’s Middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has suffered his first defeat after losing to Lightweight champion, Jan Blachowicz.

Adesanya was gunning to step up to Lightweight and become a two-weight world champion but fell short against light-heavyweight ruler Blachowicz.

Blachowicz was handed a resounding win by the judges who scored the bout 49-46, 49-45, 49-45.

If Adesanya had won, he would have become the fifth fighter to hold two UFC titles simultaneously after Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Henry Cejudo and Amanda Nunes. But, that didn’t happen.

Adesanya, who remains the middleweight champion of the world, was praised for leaving his comfort zone to challenge the Light Heavyweight champion.

He was dominated in the last two rounds when Blachowicz took the fight to the canvas and was beaten for the first time in mixed martial arts.

The Pole had won the the light-heavyweight title last September when he stopped Dominick Reyes after Jon Jones had vacated.
