Breaking: Tribunal nullifies Bayelsa guber election, sacks Gov Duoye Diri

The Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Petition Tribunal has nullified the election of Governor Duoye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The election was nullified by a three-member panel which held that the election was unlawful due to the exclusion of Action Democratic Party (ADP) and its candidate, King George from the November 16, 2019 governorship election.

The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye election within 90 days.

The tribunal ruling can, however, still be challenged at the appeal court.

Monday’s ruling comes two days after the tribunal dismissed three other petitions against the election of Governor Diri.
