A Catholic priest, Fr Kelvin Ugwu, has taken to social media to tackle his colleague and current governor of Benue state, Fr Hyacinth Aliu, for discouraging Peter Obi from visiting IDPs in his state back in April but now waiting for federal government to come help him stop insecurity in his state.
Back in April 2025, Obi had intended to visit the IDP camps in the state. He was however prevented from coming into the state by security agents. In a chat with TVC, Gov Alia said Obi was stopped because he his ‘intention’ was unknown and that he violated protocols by not informing him in advance of his planned visit to the state.
In the wake of the recent k!llings in the state, Fr Ugwu argued that the bulk stops at the governor’s table and that he should stand up and stop the tide of k!llings in his state. He dismissed the ideology that the governor cannot effectively address insecurity in his state because he has no control over security agents. Fr Ugwu wondered if it was the Federal government who informed the governor Peter Obi was coming for him and advised Alia to block him from entering the state.
He further reacted to a trending video of a herd of cows being escorted by security agents in Benue state. He averred that cows can be protected and escorted by security agents but that when it comes to protecting lives and properties in the state, the state government choose to wait on the Federal government.
