Coronavirus: We’ve started immediate cash transfer to poorest households, says FG

Sadiya Farouq, Minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development, has disclosed that the Federal government has begun cash transfer to the poorest households in the country to cushion the economic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The minister stated this at a press conference in Abuja.

She said her ministry has commenced advance payment of conditional cash transfer to the poorest households in the country. She however did not disclose the amount of cash that is being transferred to the poor.

“In Mr. President’s speech, paragraph 54, he directed that the conditional cash transfer should be given in advance of two months. This we have also done. We have directed immediate cash transfer to the poorest and most vulnerable households in the country.

“Because of this COVID-19, the vulnerable groups have to expanded, because we are aware that there are people who live on daily wage, so we are also going to look at those groups of people to see how we can get this food relief intervention to them in this period.” she said

Lagos and Abuja are currently on lockdown as part of measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus. As of Tuesday morning, Nigeria has 131 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.

  1. I doubt the sincerity of both the federal and state government reaching out to the people financially cause there’s no data to determine who are the poor and most vulnerable of the society.

They’ll as usual enrich their pockets, those of their families and political lackeys. They may willingly credit a few outside of their friends to make it look genuine but be assured it’s all hoarse, period!

  2. Please I want to know what will happen to us that is not working and we don’t have any small small business.

Also please, let the federal government start giving out the promised money but kwashiorkor full the whole nigeria. A cup of rice now is 200 and a custard of gArri is now 2000. Abeg madam, we need help.

  3. Please I want to know what will happen to us that is not working and we don’t have any small scalel business.

Also please, let the federal government start giving out the promised money before kwashiorkor full the whole nigeria. Ma did you know that now a cup of rice now is 200 and a custard of gArri is now 2000. Abeg madam, we need help.

  4. Who are the poor in the country?
I will be disappointed if PMB refused to listen to the voice of the voiceless, we have been reading analysis of 250thousand naira to all BVN in cbn costody while the country is reaping millions of naira from billions to million but yet no agreement to get this money to the downtrodden.
Good to say if PMB refused to do the good and needful to the poor God almighty will judge him and his family, because it’s not a crime for we Nigerians to vote you in and Nigerians will start to suffer in his hand.
Aisha Buhari- it’s time for us Nigerians to know if really u are good as claim, convince your guy PMB to do the needful not to transfer money to your families only.
    We are waiting.

  5. Ma how did you determine the poorest of poor? How did you get their account details? It’s very painful when people in high offices are coming out to dish out information as if they are talking to kids and expect us to celebrate them. Are we normal in this country? Why do we always make ourselves a laughing stock? We see what America is doing and it’s an open book but all government activities here is shrouded in secrecy?

  6. The Federal Govt should use the BVN database to assist people with money so that people won’t die of hunger, because the price of foodstuffs has drastically increased such that many can’t afford a cup of rice or garri, i know many families that unless they parents go out in a day to hustle, there will be no food in the house that day, so imaging how such families can survive been lock at home for two weeks, Govt should do something very quickly and stop all this false news they’re bringing up

  7. With what is going on around as regards the cushion relief by the government of Nigeria shows that there is no place for the poor in their agenda.
When it is time to tax Nigerians, seek their vote for an elections, everybody is recognized but at this critical time when the same Nigerians needed the first services from our leaders, there is obvious segregation among the citizens on the part of the Government.
Today we now have poor and vulnerable. That is the best way they can show that they are our leaders indeed.
come to think of it. How on earth do they come up with this gimmicks.
So, they knew that there are poor and vulnerable in the society and there was no place for them by our leaders to salvage this helpless, defenseless and vulnerable citizens.
Now, the issues is, after the corona virus Syndrome. What next?
