Davido bashed for returning from US, then performing in Ibadan amid Coronavirus

Nigerian popular singer, Davido is being called out by Nigerians after he went to Ibadan, met Governor Seyi Makinde and proceeded to perform at different Night clubs despite returning from the United States less than a week ago.

Davido who was supposed to be a leader and self-isolate after his return from the US was rather seen in clear violation of the coronavirus rules.

Meanwhile, Ibadan is not the only place Davido visited on return as had visited his home town of Ede, in Osun State and had complained about bad roads.

After meeting Governor Makinde on Oyo, Davido shared photos of them and wrote:

“Ever since I first heard of your triumph and good governance in OYO State I’ve been wanting to meet you and I’m glad I did! You truly inspire me and with leaders like you the future is definitely bright! God bless you @seyiamakinde.”

After the meeting, Davido reportedly performed at a wedding in Ibadan before he was sighted at Club Derok and Stone Café, both in Ibadan.

His serial violations of Makinde’s order banning assembly of 50 or more people to curb coronavirus stirred many criticisms Sunday on Twitter, as some asked if the governor gave approval for Davido’s activities in the state.

On Friday, Makinde ordered closure of all schools in the state till after Easter celebration.

Makinde gave the order while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting of the State Task Force on COVID-19, held at the Government House, Agodi in Ibadan.

He also suspended the ongoing state workers verification exercise and the free medical mission indefinitely.

The governor advised religious centres against holding activities that would bring more than 50 persons in the same place.

He said the measure taken was to avoid the outbreak and spread of the coronavirus disease currently spreading globally.

On Sunday the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced that a confirmed case of COVID-19 has been found in Oyo State, along with two new ones in Lagos, bringing Nigeria’s tally of confirmed cases to 26.
