#EndSARSMemorial: Stop arresting protesters, Amnesty slams Lagos Police

Amnesty International has called on the Lagos Police Command to desist from arresting protesters at the Lekki toll gate plaza where a memorial protest is ongoing.

On their Twitter page Wednesday, Amnesty wrote,
“Lagos: stop arresting protesters.
Lagos: stop arresting protesters.
Lagos: stop arresting protesters.
Lagos: stop arresting protesters.
Lagos: stop arresting protesters.”

The protesters came out in a car procession to the Lekki toll gate to commemorate the killings of Nigerians on the same day last year. However, men of the Nigerian Police have arrested some harmless protesters.

A journalist working with Legit TV, simply identified as Abimbola, had earlier been arrested by officers of the Lagos State Police Command during the #EndSARS protests memorial at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos today.

Another man, who was clad in white and bearing an #EndSARS banner, was also arrested by the policemen.

Abimbola said he had misplaced his identity card but had his driver’s license in his car parked nearby. He alleged that the officers hit him after they dragged him by his belt into their parked van.
