Former CBN Governor, Sanusi Meets Niger’s Coup Leaders

Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has met with the leaders of the recent successful coup in Niger Republic.

Sanusi, who holds the position of Khalifa of the Tijjaniya sect in West Africa and was previously the Emir of Kano, having been able to get the presence of General Abdourahmane Tchiani, in a meeting, has caused widespread reactions on social media owing to the fact that the previous delegation sent by ECOWAS led by former military leader Abdusalaami Abubakar, and the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, was not able to get the leader of the coup to a round table discussion. This feat is achievable may be because of the wide followership of the Tijjaniya sect within Niger Republic.

Sanusi’s participation in discussions with the coup leaders underscores the complexities surrounding the political impasse triggered by the recent coup in Niger Republic. The situation remains fluid as various parties continue their efforts to resolve the situation and restore stability to the nation.
