Hoodlums burn Ebonyi APC chairman’s house

The house of Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman in Ebonyi State, was attacked and burnt by rogue arsonists on Monday, 26th December.

Witnesses confirmed that the incident occurred at 10:18 PM at Ekoli Edda, in the Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

According to the Punch, Okoro-Emegha had, on December 24, objected to the election of a youth group in the community that saw the emergence of loyalists to the immediate past chairman of the Afikpo South LGA, Eni China, as principal officers of the community group.

The APC chairman, according to a source, had expressed displeasure over the election and reportedly invited Hon. Chima Ekumankama, the new Council area chairman, who cancelled the election, ordering the group to be disbanded.

While Stanley Okoro-Emegha was visiting the area, the hoodlums were said to have confronted him and his Ebubeagu security with bullet attack, overpowering them in a gun range. On sensing the threat to his life as his security were being overpowered, Okoro-Emegha retreated and escaped to the state’s capital, Abakiliki.

While in Abakaliki, news went round that his country home in Ebonyi was set ablaze by the suspected thugs.

Confirming the incident, Stanley Okoro-Emegha said he was attacked by hooligans that were loyal to a politician in the area and that his house has equally been burnt by the suspects.

He said, “Yes. It’s true. They attacked me tonight at Ekoli Edda community, and the same people, some of whom I know, I have just heard burnt my house.”

“These are Eni’s boys and they attacked me and they are they people that burnt my house. I call on the police and other security agencies to swing into action. They know what to do to unravel the truth of the matter. They know what to do.”
