Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, the newly appointed Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, has officially relinquished his previous position as Chairman of Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD).
Gambari established the centre in 2014 as a think-tank contributing to the sustenance of democracy and development through constructive advocacies in Nigeria.
Gambari’s resignation was disclosed on Monday in a statement released by the Executive Director of the SCDDD, Amb Abdullahi A. Omaki.
“Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to the President, has just conveyed in writing his immediate withdrawal as chairman of the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD).
“The decision to withdraw is based on his conviction that it is the best thing to do to avoid conflicts of interest,” the statement read in part.
The statement went on to reveal that the position relinquished by Gambari has since been assumed by Mallam Adibu Yazid, a Development Economist and Administrator.
The statement described Yazid as a core professional who has held several positions in the private and public sectors, including Secretary to the Government of the Head of Service of Kaduna State, before his retirement from public service.
