Kano court sentences TikToker to one year in correctional centre for cross-dressing video

A popular TikTok content creator, Abubakar Usman popularly known in the entertainment industry as Kilina, has been sentenced to one year at a correctional service by a magistrate court in Kano, presided over by Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan of Court No. 21.

The court also gave the TikToker an option of paying a fine of N100, 000, in addition to a compensation fee of N30, 000 to the Kano State Film Censorship Board for “wasting the board’s time.”

Kilina was convicted after he was found guilty of promoting indecent behaviour, featuring and promoting cross-dressing in most of his TikTok videos, and the use of offensive and vulgar language.

The sentencing followed a case filed against him by the Kano State Film Censorship Board.

During sentencing, the magistrate warned Kilina to desist from actions that violate public decency and warned that should he repeat such offences, the court would have no option but to impose the full sentence without the option of a fine on him.

Fans of Kilina have gone on social media to sympathise with him following his sentencing, while some told him he was already crossing the line with his content.
