Meet first Member of Parliament to wear hijab in Sweden

Her name is Leila Ali Elmi. She made history by becoming the first East African woman to be elected to the Swedish parliament. She recently took up her seat in parliament for the first time.

Leila was born in Somalia but fled as a young child during the civil war in the early 1990s. She’s a member of the Green Party, which is presently in government together with the Social Democratic Party.
