Mother and son remanded for attempted murder against in-law

A certain housewife, Charity Upev, and Tertsea, her son, have been taken into custody by the Police in Benue State for beating Fanen, their in-law, to death.

The violent action was reportedly incited by their disagreement over meat.

Charity and Tertsea were charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

Magistrate Roseline Iyorshe of the Makurdi Chief Magistrate’s Court did not grant their plea and adjourned the matter till February 8 for further mention and transferred the case file.

Earlier, counsel of the prosecution, Inspector Jonah Uletu, told the court that the Divisional Police Officer of ‘E’ Division Police Station, Makurdi, received report that Charity and her son beat up her in-law who lives with her.

According to the prosecutor, Charity, when questioned, claimed her in-law stole meat from her pot.

Fanen was rushed to the hospital because of being unconscious from the battering. Unfortunately, though, he died while receiving medical attention.

The prosecuting officer explained that the offence breached sections 97 and 222 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004.
