‘NCDC didn’t fail Kano, Ganduje did’ Nigerians slam Northerners blaming NCDC for rise in COVID-19 cases in Kano

Some Twitter users from the Northern part of Nigeria, especially from Kano state, have initiated the hashtage, #NCDCFailedKano, using it to call out the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for the sudden rise in coronavirus cases in Kano state.

A Twitter user, known as Sarki questioned why Kano state has one COVID-19 testing centre, claiming that Lagos state in South West Nigeria has has “20 testing centres”.

He wrote: “How can a whole kano state be having 1 test center and Lagos almost 20?? Are the lives in kano of little value to you guys ?
@NCDCgov Whichever way you look at it it’s simply unfair and acceptable and you must change that
#NCDCFailedKano”.

However, many Twitter users corrected him that Lagos state has only 3 testing centres and 20 sample collecting centres. They also informed Sarki and others who agree with him, that it is the effort of the Lagos state government that has created more sample collection centres and not the NCDC.

Furthermore, Twitter users from other parts of Nigeria told those blaming NCDC to stop engineering tribal or regional wars but rather direct their anger at the Kano State Governor, Umar Ganduje for not being proactive in the fight against the pandemic.
