Presidency explains why FG didn’t give N10bn to Rivers, Kano, others to fight Covid-19

Following the outbreak of the Corovirus pandemic in the country, the federal government provided 10 billion Naira assistance to Lagos state, Nigeria’s epicentre, to fight the spread of the dread virus.

This gesture prompted governors from other states, especially Rivers and Kano, to also look towards the FG for funds when their states got hit by the disease.

Now, the Presidency has explained why the FG is not giving funds to states to fight the pandemic and why it provided funds to the Lagos state government.

The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina who spoke on a radio programme accused some Governors of prioritizing the quest for money over the need to overcome the disease in the state.

Adesina said; “The Federal Government assisted Lagos State with N10 billion for its commitment and only because it was satisfied that the government of Lagos started on the right footing, rolling out proper plans and mobilising its fund to fight the pandemic.

“Lagos State was only scouting for technical, manpower and facility supports, not financial support.

“The Buhari government felt obliged to lend a financial hand not because it was asked to, but because it was convinced it should.”
