Strengthening Governance: Akpabio, Gbajabiamila, Nwawuba, and House Leadership Join Forces at Strategic Retreat

In a bid to strengthen governance and foster collaborative efforts towards economic transformation, the National Assembly, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) organized a two-day retreat for members of the 10th House of Representatives.

The event, themed “Navigating Change: Legislative Strategies for Economic Transformation,” aimed to enhance the legislative and oversight capacity of lawmakers.

The retreat, which took place on 30th April and 1st of May at Abuja Continental Hotel featured panel discussions and interactive sessions designed to equip members with practical tools and strategies to drive impactful legislative oversight. The event aligns with the 10th National Assembly’s Legislative Agenda, prioritizing economic growth and development.

Dignitaries in attendance include Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; Senate President, His Excellency Sen. Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu; Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library Trust Fund, Rt. Hon. Henry Nwawuba; Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal; and former Speakers, Rt. Hon. Aminu Masari, Rt. Hon. Patricia Etteh, and Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, among others.

The retreat focused on key issues, including the Petroleum Industry Act’s transformative impact on the oil and gas sector, parliament’s role in tax reform, public financial management, and tax administration. By deepening members’ understanding of these critical areas, the retreat aimed to enhance the legislature’s capacity to shape the nation’s economic trajectory and influence the economic environment through effective lawmaking and oversight.
