Surety receives 3-month sentence in Jos

A court in Jos, Plateau State, issued a 3-month jail sentence to one Sani Ukasha, on Thursday, 18th May.

The 31-year-old man was convicted for not presenting an individual for whom he acted as a surety.

According to the prosecutor Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat to the court, Sani had neglected to produce the accused person in a case involving the theft of seasoning cubes, thus violating the Plateau State Penal Code.

Judge Mr. Shawomi Bokkos then passed the sentence after Ukasha pleaded guilty and requested leniency. However, Bokkos provided the surety with an alternative of a N10 000 fine.
