It was a tragic moment for the residents around Orita Mokola Junction, Seedu Sabarumu, in the Saki Local Government Area of Oyo State following the death of a two-year-old girl after she fell into a well.
Her body was recovered by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency who responded to an emergency call for assistance.
The incident was reported to the Saki Zonal Fire Station at exactly 1:43 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, by a resident who rushed to the station to seek help.
Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and retrieved the body using rescue equipment. Unfortunately, it was too late to revive the girl.
The Fire Service’s Post-Incident Investigation Team has initiated an inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency Reform, Maroof Akinwande, also confirmed the incident on Wednesday in Ibadan.
He advised residents to cover wells and septic pits properly to prevent such tragedies.
“We urge the general public to take all safety precautions to prevent open wells and pits from becoming death traps,” he said.
