Youths burn Policemen with ‘Acid’ to avenge death of man shot over lockdown in Anambra (Graphic)

Crisis erupted on Wednesday, April 15th in Nkpor community of Anambra State, as a young man identified simply as Ebuka was allegedly shot dead by police officers who were enforcing lockdown.

The incident occurred at Ezego Street in Agulu Avenue by New Tyre, Nkpor. Eyewitnesses also alleged that there was no provocation, before the shooting occurred. 

Facebook user, Ikenna Orji wrote: “There is riot going on right now at Nkpor new tyre following the killing of a young man by the police taskforce on COVID-19.

According to the eyes withness, the police was chasing some residents drinking at a joint when the young man was coming out from his house to buy foodstuffs, he saw everyone running and wanted to run as well but fell down and the police suspected to attached to Okpoko Police station shot him on a close range.”

Following the incident, the angry youths in the area marched to the police station to retaliate. Some of the mobile police officers on patrol were later seen running for their lives as the mob poured acid on the officers.

Anambra Police Command spokesperson, Mr Haruna Mohamed confirmed that some members of a police patrol team were attacked by the youths.

He said an unprovoked attack was launched against a Police patrol team, with a substance suspected to be acid.

Haruna further told newsmen that “efforts are ongoing to restore sanity in the area”.

  1. Why will police shoot guns in the first place. Nigeria police are always found of shooting innocent citizens but wen they face ordinary armed robber they will run
