The senate, on Thursday, passed the 2020 Appropriation bill after the adoption of the reports submitted by the Committees on Appropriation, of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
The bill was passed after the chairman of the appropriations committee, Barau Jibrin, moved a motion for its passage.
The senate however, raised the estimates by N260 billion, bringing the total sum of government’s expenditure to N10.59 trillion.
Jibrin explained that the increase allows for intervention in critical areas like security, infrastructure, mines and steel development, social development, among others.
The Senate, in a clause-by-clause consideration of the bill, adopted the recommendations of the committee with slight amendments made to Section 1 under the Establishment of National Council on Public Procurement.
The lawmakers however voted on the clauses of the bill in the committee of supply, and passed it after a voice vote.
The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, admonished the Executive to ensure the full and effective implementation of the budget of the budget, adding that the senate will interact with Ministries, Departments and Agencies on a quarterly basis in 2020 to monitor implementation of the budget for the benefit of Nigerians.
