Staff of Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) have locked up the commission’s headquarters in Owerri over owed salaries.

Speaking on Wednesday, Feb 10, during their protest, the staff told the ISOPADEC’s Managing Director, Chief Charles Orie that the gate of the commission will remain locked until their April and May 2020 salaries are paid.

The worker also complained they have being short paid salaries since June 2020 till date as over 75% of their salaries are being slashed for no just cause.

The managing director pleaded with them to open offices and give him more time so he can speak with Governor Hope Uzodinma, to make him understand that ISOPADEC is a commission different from normal civil service.

The staff refused and informed him that they have lost two of their colleagues due to inability of the deceased to pay their medical bills. They also said another staff member lost his only son because he was unable to raise money for his medication.

Some of them wondered why the MD ISOPADEC uses a convoy worth over N140 million with over 25 special assistants living in luxury while the ISOPADEC staff were dying due to owed and slashed salaries salaries.
