India apologizes for “accidentally” firing missile into Pakistan

India’s Ministry of Defense has apologized, after they accidentally fired a missile into Pakistan on Friday.

The ministry said that routine maintenance made the missile go off because of a ‘technical malfunction’.

“It is a matter of relief that there was no loss of life,” the ministry statement claimed, after Pakistani authorities had summoned India’s charge d’affairs to explain the incident.

Islamabad had warned New Delhi “to be mindful of the unpleasant consequences of such negligence and to take effective measures to avoid the recurrence of such violations in the future”.

Both India and Pakistan are nuclear-armed states, sharing a long history of tension along the border, most notable in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
