Breaking: Umahi sacks appointees from Pius Anyim’s local govt

The political drama following the defection of the Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi is still far from ending any time soon. This time, the Governor has sacked most of his political appointees from Ivo Local Government Area of the State where Senator Pius Anyim is from.

Recall that Anyim, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senate President and an ally to Umahi, had raised an alarm that Umahi was plotting to kill him for not joining him to defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Senator Anyim made the allegation in an open letter to Umahi and copied President Muhammadu Buhari, and heads of security agencies.

The letter was a reaction to an earlier accusation by Umahi that the forth Senate President was plotting with other top People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in the state to unleash violence in the state.

Mr. Umahi had last week named the other persons allegedly in league with Mr. Anyim as Senators Obinna Ọgba and Sam Egwu and Acting Southeast Zonal Vice Chairman of the Southeast, Ali Odefa.

He said they were plotting with cultists and IPOB members to make the state ungovernable.

In follow up of the political drama playing out in the state, the Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner, Kenneth Ụgbọala on Wednesday announced the said of the appointees.

He said the sack was informed by the Governor’s decision to ensure inclusiveness in governance.

Those affected by the sack are: All Senior Technical Assistants (STAs) and Technical Assistants (TAs) to the Governor; All Liaison Officers; and All Management Committee members from Ivo Local Government Area.

The statement directed them to handover all Government Property in their possession to the Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner by the close of work today, 2nd December 2020.

Umahi had last Thursday sacked Coordinators of Ivo and Echiele Development Centres for allegedly refusing to sign a communiqué against Senator Pius Anyim.

Meanwhile, some of the Umahi’s appointees from Ivo had earlier resigned days ago, before the Wednesday’s sledgehammer.

Appointees from Mr Egwu, who is the Senator representing Ebonyi North, were also sacked last week.
