UN condemns Meta for allowing hate speech against Russians

Meta have recently come under strong criticism for allowing Facebook and Instagram posts that calls for violence on Russians, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In a statement reacting to the actions of Meta, Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Meta’s move to allow hateful remarks and calls for violence against certain Russians.

“We stand clearly against all hate speech, all calls for violence. That kind of language is just unacceptable from whichever quarter it comes from,” Dujarric said during a news briefing on Friday.
