Nigerian actress arrested for Naira notes abuse

Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have started an investigation of Ms. Oluwa Darasimi Omoseyin, who is an actress and cosmetologist.

Omoseyin allegedly tampered with the redesigned Naira notes in a manner contrary to Section 21 (5) of the CBN Act, 2007.

EFCC released a statement on Friday, February 3, saying that Omoseyin was arrested by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Fraud Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Wednesday, February 1. She was caught and arrested along Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, following intel they recieved.

The statement reads:

“The 31-year-old was arrested after the video of her spraying and stepping on the newly redesigned Naira notes at a party surfaced online. In the viral video, she was also seen flaunting wads of the new Naira notes.

“The suspect was subsequently handed over to the EFCC on Thursday, February 2, 2023 for further investigations.”

The anti-fraud agency also revealed a Range Rover and iPhone mobile sets were retrieved from her at the point of arrest.

The suspect is said to await court trial which will take place once investigations are concluded.
