Senator Ohuabunwa opposes Orji Kalu’s senate presidency ambition

Mao Ohuabunwa, an ex-assemblyman representing Abia North Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, has opposed Orji Uzo Kalu regarding his ambition towards the Senate Presidency.

He argued on a Channels TV interview that Kalu who is the currently representing Abia North Senatorial District in the red chambers has a pending case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and is an ex-convict.

Ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly in June, Kalu, who won his re-election in the February 25 election, indicated interest in the seat of the senate president, adding it is his turn to run the said office.

However, Ohuabunwa, who hails from the same senatorial district as Kalu said that he is not worthy to represent the people.

When asked on the interview, Ohuabunwa expressed how he would feel should Kalu succeed to senate presidency, saying:

“I will feel terrible because I don’t believe that he is competent to represent the Senate. He has not won the election so I wouldn’t want a Senate President that will be removed tomorrow. He has so much baggage with him. He still has an EFCC case in court, don’t forget that he was convicted. He wasn’t discharged. I am wondering why the EFCC is still holding back on that prosecution.”
