Niger Governor, Bago orders reopening of IBB University earlier closed due to insecurity

Months after the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Niger State, was shut down due to security concerns that claimed lives within the campus, Mohammed Umaru Bago, the State Governor, has ordered the immediate reopening of the university.

In a statement released on Friday, August 2, in Minna, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, secretary to the State Government (SSG), said the governor’s decision followed a thorough review of security measures and infrastructural upgrades at the institution.

According to the SSG, the state government has implemented a robust security architecture to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the broader university community. He reaffirmed Governor Bago’s commitment to the welfare of the university’s stakeholders and pledged continued government support for the institution.

Usman also praised the collaborative efforts of security agencies, university authorities, and community leaders in addressing the issues that led to the school’s closure. He urged students and staff to adhere strictly to the new security protocols and cooperate with university management to ensure a seamless resumption.
