Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, have commended the Super Eagles for their performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite their semi-final defeat to Morocco.
In a high-intensity clash on Wednesday, Nigeria held tournament hosts Morocco to a 0-0 draw through 120 minutes of play. Despite a defensive masterclass, the Eagles ultimately fell 4–2 in the decisive penalty shootout, ending their hopes of reaching the final.
Peter Obi, took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday morning to offer words of comfort and encouragement to the squad. Refusing to let the defeat overshadow their achievements, he described the match as a “battle well fought.”
“Dearest gallant Super Eagles, it was a battle well fought and heads were not bowed.
Thank you for a beautiful 120 minutes of incredible play. You showed your strength and prowess against all odds.
The journey is not over. You have made the nation proud. Keep your heads high, the Eagle never stops soaring.
There is another stage, let’s go get that medal.
You have done well.-PO”
