Abuja prison escapee caught in Nasarawa stealing

Nasarawa State Police operatives have nabbed one of the inmates who escaped during the attack on the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Abuja last year.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, released a press statement on Sunday, 9th April, identifying the escapee as Salisu Buhari, a 24-year-old native of the state.

Nansel said operatives caught and arrested Buhari for motorcycle theft in the Nasarawa L.G.A of the state along with one Zubeiru Ali, a culprit in his theft from the local residents.

The police spokesman said, “On April 6, 2023, at about 10pm, police operatives attached to the Nasarawa Division, in a sting operation, arrested the duo of Zubairu Ali (27 years) and Salisu Buhari (24 years) for motorcycle theft in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are responsible for most motorcycle snatching and theft in Nasarawa Local Government Area and its environs.

“Upon interrogation, Salisu Buhari confessed to having escaped from Kuje Prison when the facility was attacked last year, linked up with his crony, and went into the criminal venture.”

The PPRO warned all criminal elements to leave the state immediately, adding that the State Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State CID in Lafia for a thorough investigation.
