Various stakeholders and observers have applauded the leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing for its critical interventions and engagements that have been credited for the calling off of the one week sit-at-home by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
Following intensive engagements with agitators over the last few weeks which culminated in setting up the Anambra Election Security Monitoring Committee, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide-Youth Wing has made far-reaching inroads in its determination to ensure that the governorship election did not only hold, but also held in an atmosphere of peace.
The Chairman of the Anambra Election Security Monitoring Committee of the apex Igbo youth Organization, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu had hit the ground running as soon as he was inaugurated. The team met notable stakeholders, reached out to key leaders of the secessionist agitations and convinced them on the need, not to only to rescind the “No Election” order, but also to reconsider the one week sit-at-home directive. Fortunately, the agitators have heeded good counsel by not only canceling the sit-at-home order, but also going a step further to urge Anambra voters to turn out en masse to cast their votes for their preferred candidates.
Analysts believe that if there is any group that should receive the most credit for this positive turn of events, it is the Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which had from the onset, not only declared its determination to ensure that the election held, but also matched words with action by moving into Anambra to drive the negotiations and engagements.
In the words of Comrade Chris Uzoma; “At a time, it appeared that the IPOB was the beginning and the end in Igbo land, their words were unchallenged and they were on the verge of turning the Southeast into a desert of fear, but thank God for the courageous leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide-Youth Wing. They are gradually providing an alternative and the people are watching. Maybe, if they continue in this line, we should be able to have a more reasonable voice for Ndigbo, soonest”.
