Breaking: Court fixes date for Nnamdi Kanu’s bail hearing, strikes out 8 out of 15 charges

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has set May 18 and 26 as the dates for the ruling for the bail application of the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Justice Binta Nyako gave the ruling on Friday during the resumed trial of Kanu.

However, before announcing the new dates, Justice Nyako struck out 8 out of 15 count charges against the IPOB leader.

The judge threw out the 8 counts on the grounds that the proof of evidence did not link him with the charges.

Justice Nyako freed Kanu from the 8 charges while delivering the ruling in a preliminary objection the Biafran leader raised against all the charges.

The judge said: “In this instant preliminary objection application, I have read the counts and come to the conclusion that counts 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 have not disclosed any offence against the defendant.

“‘Counts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 15 show some allegations, which the defendant has to answer.
The court shall proceed to try the defendant on those counts.”

The IPOB leader has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest in June 2021.

Kanu was arrested in Kenya and later transported back to Nigeria.
