Despite disqualification of APC Guber candidate, Polls will go on in Bayelsa – INEC

The Independent and National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that the disqualification of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not stop the scheduled election from going on Saturday.

Justice Jane Inyang of the Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Thursday ruled that the governorship primary conducted by APC in Bayelsa was not done in compliance with the party’s guidelines and constitution, hence the disqualification of their candidate.

While reacting the disqualification of David Lyon of the APC, Sarian Dangosu, INEC publicity secretary in Bayelsa said, “The court did not say INEC should stop the election.”

“The court only said those who do not have candidates will be disallowed therefore, the other 43 candidates will go to the polls,” she added.

The court judgement came days after the federal High Court in Abuja disqualified Mr Lyon’s running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo from participating in the election for presenting conflicting information to the electoral commission.
