Facebook bans Russian state media from ads and monetization

Facebook announced Friday it would ban Russian state media outlets from advertising or monetizing their content on the social media network in response to the conflict in Ukraine.

The restriction was revealed in a statement from the company’s head of security, which added, “We also continue to apply labels to additional Russian state media. These changes have already begun rolling out and will continue into the weekend.”

Russia’s media regulator announced this week that Facebook access in the country would be restricted after Moscow accused the platform and Meta of breaching “fundamental human rights” after four Russian news outlets had their access limited.
