FCCPC intervanes as Nigerians Accuse Opay of Opening Account For Them Without Permission

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), has intervened in the Complaints by Nigerians that Opay, a digital payment platform opened an account in their names without their consent and they have decided to call in the company for questioning regarding the alleged infractions first.

Irukera made it clear in his X page, that Opay owes the agency explanation as regards what had transpired between their services and the consumers in the last few days.

Opay is a financial institution in Nigeria and is also known as one of Nigeria’s biggest payment platforms, with over 30 million users and processing billions of naira worth of payments monthly.

The company’s record has it has over 50,000 agents who receive and pay bills through their platform, and over time, they have been reliable with these agents.

The institution had come in during the cruel cash scarcity that left Nigerians on their platform for transactions.
