Gov Ihedioha renames Jacob Zuma road named by Okorocha to Amaechi road

Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo has renamed the popular Jacob Zuma road in Owerri, the state capital.

The immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha named the road after the former South African president who also commissioned the road during his official visit to the state.

Okorocha had also honoured Zuma with a giant statue at the heart of Owerri, alongside other African leaders. Gov Ihedioha’s decision has sparked reactions in Imo state.

The road is now to be known as Mbazuluike Amaechi road, in commemoration of Amaechi’s 90th birthday.

Amaechi was 1st Republic aviation minister and is the only surviving member of the Zikist Movement, founded by Nigeria’s 1st president, Nnamdi Azikiwe.

The renaming was done as a mark of honour on the 90th birthday celebration of the foremost nationalist.
