How Manchester United can repeat Premier League history after 5-1 win

Manchester United were impressive in their first game of the 2021/2022 English Premier League season following their 5-1 trashing of Leeds United.

Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba were the main stars of the August 14th match as the hat-trick from Fernandes and four assists from Pogba made it easy for the Red Devils to crush Leeds at Old Trafford.

Fernandes scored the opener in the 30th minute giving Manchester United team the lead at the first half. However, the score line was leveled 1-1 when Luke Ayling equalized for Leeds on return to the second half at the 48th minute.

Mason Greenwood scored Man United’s second goal at the 52nd minute, which was followed by two more goals from Fernandes at the 54th and 60th minute. Fred scored the last goal of the match at the 83rd minute, bringing the score line to 5-1.

Interestingly, it is only two times Manchester United have recorded 5-1 win in an opening day of a Premier League season in their history. The last time they did (against Fulham in 2006), they won the Premier league title of the season.

In that match in 2006, Wayne Rooney scored two goals, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs scored a goal each while Ian Pearce scored an own goal.

If Manchester United continue with this impressive performance and eventually win the Premier League title at the end of this season, then it would be a repeat of history recorded during the 2006/2007 campaign book.

The question now is: Can this Manchester United team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bring the EPL title back to Old Trafford?
Only TIME will tell!
