ASSOCIATION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS OF NIGERIA
IMO STATE CHAPTER
PRESS RELEASE
The ALGON Imo State chapter wishes to react to the rumours making rounds that some members of the House of Assembly of Imo State has suspended the officials of Local Government councils of the State.
But for the inundation of our social media timelines with such puerile and infantile purports, we would have ignored it hence it is coming from a group of legislative neophytes.
For the records, there is no known law of the land that empowers the State Houses of Assembly to suspend, dissolve or sack any elected Local Government Official. Such action tantamounts to legislative rascality and brigandage.
The standing rules of the State Houses of Assembly forbids the members from deliberations on any issues which are in any court of competent jurisdiction.
The State House of Assembly is not unaware of a pending lawsuit at the High court of Imo State against the Imo State Government and its agents.
If it is true that few members of the House of Assembly of Imo State involved themselves in this lawlessness, then it is only certain that they are still teenagers in the business of law making.
The ALGON Imo State chapter wishes to inform the general public that there is no cause for alarm hence illegality does not beget legality. What is illegal ab initio can never at any point in time be legal.
Having declared war on the collective sensibilities of Imolites, they should be ready to face the collective onslaught of the masses.
The reaction of Ndi Imo so far has demonstrated how the people are willing to fight impunity at any level.
Thank you and God bless Imo State
