Impeached Ogun chairman perfects bail, leaves prison

Mr Adewale Adedayo, the impeached chairman of the Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, regained his freedom on 28th September after spending almost 48 hours in the Ibara Correctional Centre in Abeokuta.

He was prosecuted on 25th September by the police over the allegation that he defamed Dapo Abiodun, Ogun State GovernorFollowing his prosecution on two counts before the state’s magistrates’ court in Isabo, he was admitted to N2m bail with two sureties in like sum.

Adejoke Araba, the magistrate, however, ordered that he should be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of the bail conditions.

Our correspondent gathered on 28th September that Adedayo got back his freedom after he finally met the bail conditions.

The embattled LG boss, who was first suspended and later impeached by some of the local government lawmakers, had about a month ago accused Governor Abiodun of diverting funds and interventions meant for local governments in the state in the last three years.He alleged that the governor diverted up to N10.8bn meant to develop 20 local governments in the state.

Before their prosecution on 25th September, Adedayo had earlier been jailed by the Ogun State Command of the Department of the State Services on the complaint of the governor.
