Incredible! IMSU set to use E-Voting for next SUG election

The wind of innovation blowing across higher institutions in Nigeria has also hit Imo State University (IMSU) following the introduction of Electronic Voting for their forthcoming Student’s Union Government election set to take place next semester.

Expressiveinfo can exclusively report that the Dean, Student’s Affairs of the Institution, Prof Martins Uchenna officially informed the students about the new innovation on Thursdays, April 25th during their 2nd Inaugural Students Assembly.

The Dean stated that the management would ensure that the exercise is not fraught with malpractices, stressing that the innovation would minimize the stress synonymous with the ballot method and assured the students of a free and fair exercise, noting that E-voting was the only alternative for the management to avert post-election acrimony.

Expressiveinfo gathered that the students embraced the innovation because of the violence that marred the two previous elections conducted last year that resulted in inconclusive elections.

Although the E-voting is a new initiative in the campus spearheaded by the Dean, a clear majority of he students were willing to take a bet with the E-voting system. Many students described the innovation as a “welcome development”, saying there would be no rancour and irregularities that usually attended manual voting.

The modalities of the election have not yet been confirmed but the rumour making rounds are that only students who have paid their ancillary fees and done their course registration online would be eligible to vote with a secret code that will be sent to them via text messages on the eve of the election to enable them log into the university website from any location and vote for the candidate of their choice.
