IPOB members burn commuter buses, motorcycles

The Ebonyi State Police Command, on Monday, has sworn to  arrest and prosecute  suspected members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra and and its armed affiliate, Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN)

They were said to have attacked some  innocent motorists and commuters at the Ezzamgbo Junction in Ohaukwu local government area of the State.

 Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) In his statement said that armed men suspected to be IPOB/ESN members in a sienna car attacked commuter buses, a tricycle and motorcycles at Ezzangbo junction on Monday.

According to her, the hoodlums  burnt down three commuter buses, four motorcycles and one tricycle, and she affirmed that no life was lost.

She also maintained that men of the Command have been sent out in search of the perpetrators.

“And we believe that before the end of the day, the perpetrators will be apprehended,” the PPRO stated.

According to an anonymous eyewitness,  the activity was carried out during the enforcement of the illegal Monday sit-at-home order.

The eyewitness likewise added the effect of the illegal operation on vehicular and human movements on Abakaliki-Enugu expressway. 

The eyewitness noted that the gunmen had set ablaze vehicles and motorcycles while residents fled for safety.

The eyewitness said that the incident took place at 8am on Monday morning.

According to the eyewitness report, the hoodlums were carrying ample weapons which they shot carelessly in the air, this disrupted the daily activities of settlers around. 

Thereafter there was orderliness after the security personnels paraded the vicinity.
