‘It’s senseless’ – Buhari describes the killing of 43 farmers in Borno

President Muhammadu Buhari has described as senseless the killing of about 43 farmers in Zamarmari community of Jere local government area of Borno state by members of Boko Haram.

The president, in a statement by Garba Shehu, his spokesman, said the government had given all the needed support to the armed forces “to take all necessary steps to protect the country’s population and its territory”.

He also “condemn the killing of our hardworking farmers by terrorists in Borno state.”

“The entire country is hurt by these senseless killings. My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief. May their souls Rest In Peace.”

A few days ago, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) had called on the president to address the insecurity in the northern part of the country.

The group had said it was conveying the anger and frustrations of many northerners to the president to do the needful by securing the nation, adding that Buhari’s response “is getting too late”.

The slain farmers were laid to rest on Sunday morning in the presence of several horrified kinsmen and villagers.
