Just In: Abramovich puts Chelsea Football Club up for sale, demands $4bn

Chelsea’s Russian owner Roman Abramovich has reluctantly put the London football club up for sale with a whopping $4bn price tag, and reportedly already has a billionaire Swiss medical magnate lined up.

86-year-old Synthes USA founder Hansjorg Wyss claims he has been offered the chance to join a consortium with up to 7 others, but says Abramovich – who is owed an estimated $2bn by the club – is asking “far too much”.

On Saturday, Abramovich passed “stewardship and care” to club trustees, who have requested indemnity insurance before they agree to temporarily take responsibility for the club.
