Just in: Buhari congratulates Obaseki, speaks on conduct of the Edo Gov’ship Election

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki for winning the election that held on Saturday, September 19, 2020 in Edo state.

The President also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) overseeing the ‘free and fair’ electoral process witnessed in Edo.

In a statement signed by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity) on Sunday, the President urged Obaseki to show grace and humility in victory.

President Buhari said:

“My commitment to free and fair elections is firm, because without free and fair elections, the foundation of our political and moral authority will be weak.”

“I have consistently advocated for free and fair elections in the country because it is the bedrock of true democratic order.

“Democracy will mean nothing if the votes of the people don’t count or if their mandate is fraudulently tampered with.”

He commended the people of Edo State, the parties, candidates and security agencies for conducting themselves responsibly.

  1. Good One for Edo People for choosing their best. I also congratulate the other contestants for their understanding. Elections as we all know is a contest of two or more, which in a process produced a win,and best losers. We all should tow the line of our President Mohammadu Buhari in congratulating the Governor elect Godwin Obaseki and join hands in taking Edo State to a greater height. GOD bless Edo, GOD bless Nigeria.
