Just in: Police clarifies arrest report of ‘suspected killer’ of Uwaila being circulated

The Police at Force headquarters on Tuesday shared an update which is a clarification on the viral report that one suspected killer has been arrested.

According to the update, no suspected killer has been arrested in connection with the death of Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, the female 100 level UNIBEN student who was raped and killed at a church in Benin.

Rather the police said, detectives hunting for the perpetrators of the dastardly act have been able to arrest a suspect who might assist investigators with information in unraveling those behind the crime.

Vanguard reports that a senior officer who made the clarification advised the media not to stampede the public with wrong information, even if they are under pressure.

“Investigation is ongoing, as soon as the police make headway and the suspects are arrested, it will be made public”, the officer said.

The update is slightly different from the comments from the spokesman of Edo police command, Chidi Nwabuzor who confirmed the arrest while speaking to newsmen. Nwabuzor told newsmen that the suspect was arrested after the fire extinguisher used in the attack was examined and fingerprint was found.

Nwabuzor said the arrest was carried out by the Area Commander of Ikpoba Hill who mobilized his men to the area.
