JUST IN: Presidential Elections Tribunal dismisses applications for live broadcast of court sessions

Justice Tsammani has dismissed the application made by the PDP and LP, stating that it lacked merit. This was announced during the court session in Abuja on Monday, 22nd May.

On 8th May, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, had filed an application seeking an order for live coverage of the daily court proceedings regarding the case against President-elect Bola Tinubu.

This was followed by a similar request from the Labour Party (LP) and its Presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

However, a week later, Tinubu filed an objection to the application for live broadcasting of the election petition hearings. According to the objectors, such coverage constitutes an abuse of the court process.

Recall that Expressive Info reported that the court has placed a ban on the use of mobile phones in court. The ban would be effective from Monday, 22nd May.
