Kano court jails Versity student for criticizing lawmaker on Facebook

A two hundred level student of Bayero University, Yahuza Tijjani has been remanded in prison custody after he was arraigned before a magistrate court in Kano state for criticizing a lawmaker named Kabiru Is’mail. 

Yahuza Tijjani who is of the Department of Science and Technology Education is fighting for his freedom because of a Facebook post which did not mention the name of the lawmaker

The post reads: “You know he’s not well educated, as a result of which he doesn’t know how to calculate figures.
He said 1230, he later said 1500 and at the ending said 2000.”

Tijjani wrote in another post, “I pray to God almighty that the election petition tribunal (will) declare the election of state’s assembly member representing Madobi as inconclusive.”

The lawmaker and Tijjani who reportedly spent seven days at the Police ‘Zone 1’ regional headquarters in Kano and the State Criminal Investigation Department before being sent to jail are both from Madobi Local Government Area of Kano state.
