A mother identified as Zeinab Abidi in Kentucky accused of bashing her 6-year-old daughter’s head with a hammer, allegedly told her son, who tried to stop her during the violent assault, “let me finish her.”
Louisville Metro Police Department responded to the home last Thursday, June 19, after they received a report of a girl being attacked with a hammer. The child was found “suffering from multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds.”
The young girl was taken to a hospital, where she remained in critical condition for four days after the attack.
The 40-year-old woman was charged with attempted murd£r for the incident. She reportedly “became overly angry and struck the victim in the head with a hammer an unknown number of times.”
A homicide unit spoke with the 6-year-old’s brother, who said that “while restraining [his mother] after the assault, she stated to him ‘let me finish her’ while attempting to return to the victim,” PEOPLE reported.
Abdi was being held at Louisville Metro Corrections, and her bail was set at $500,000.
She is set to appear in court on June 30.
