Man caught after drugging girls, in attempt to traffic them to Libya

A suspected human trafficker identified as Muideen Adebisi has been apprehended by operatives of the Osun State Police Command for attempted trafficking of four teenage girls to Libya.

This was made known in a statement issued on Monday, 10th April by the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola.

Describing the heart-rising situation, Yemisi said that the girls were invited by the trafficker to a birthday party at Ile-Ife and were offered food and drinks there, which they ate. They reportedly slept off after the refreshment only to find themselves in Kano, where papers were being prepared to send them to Libya.

According to the police spokesperson, three of the victims escaped after regaining consciousness and contacted their parents. Sadly, though, news about the fourth victim remains uncertain.

The statement read, “The suspect (Muideen Adebisi), invited the young girls to a birthday party at a hotel in Ile-Ife and gave them food and drinks. After taking the food and drinks, the girls slept off and later woke up in Kano State en route to Tripoli, the capital of Libya.

“Three of the girls escaped miraculously in Kano and called their parents, who reported the matter to the police.

“Three of the girls have been reunited with their families, but the whereabouts of the fourth girl were not known at the time of filing this report.”

The suspect reportedly told the Police officers during interrogation that his brother living in Tripoli asked him to take the girls to a man in Kano who would help them travel to Libya because he claimed they willingly wanted to go. He claimed that by the time he arrived at the man’s house in Kano with the girls, there were already many girls in the house waiting for their papers to be processed for travel.

The PPRO, however, assured that the truth would be gotten from the suspect and he would be charged to court soon.
