Nigerian Comedian dies from cancer

The Nigerian entertainment industry has been thrown into sadness and grief over the death of Tobi Owomoleya, a.k.a. Peteru, who is a fast-rising stand-up comedian based in Ibadan.

Report shows that the 35-year-old Peteru, who had buried his father some weeks ago, was afflicted with colon cancer, which eventually claimed his life.

Peteru, who originally comes from Ondo State but was born and raised in Ibadan, Oyo State, was known for his fine ability to mimick other people during performances. Before becoming a comedian, he started out as a dancer, as singer, and later as a Masters of Ceremony (MC). He was also a graduate of the Polytechnic of Ibadan, studying Purchasing and Supply.

Since Peteru’s journey to stardom started to yield him fame, especially in South-eastern Nigeria, he has worked with top celebrities in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

On instagram, entertainers such as Muyiwa Ademola, Princesscomedian, 9iceofficial, M_O_C, Lepacious bose, and a host of other people are mourning Peteru.

Below are few comments by some of Peteru’s colleagues in the industry.

funmiawelewa wrote: “Peteru💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 Unquestionable God”

princesscomedian: “soooo heartbreaking, he just buried his dad weeks ago💔 may his gentle soul rest in peace”

m____o____c: “Rest well Peteru, the pain was too much. May God forgive your sins.”

Peteru is survived by his son, Bryan, and his mother, both of whom are in the United States.

When he was once asked why he doesn’t want to relocate to Lagos, Peteru said that he would like to first strengthen and establish his ground as a famous entertainer in Ibadan.

According to him, since there are many big entertainers in Lagos, he would want to wait patiently until his “brand is strong enough to… sit with [those] kings.‎”
